This project stems from the need to offer proper medical assistance to the thousand of people who live in a foreign country. Indeed, the 3% of European citizens is not in the country where they were born, for personal or work reasons; among them, there are also chronic and sporadic patients, who deserve to receive therapies with extreme accuracy and promptness.
But finding the health file of a foreign citizen is often a difficult and long procedure for hospitals. Konfido aims to solve this problem and make the data exchange between different countries faster and safer. So that, once installed the software, in European healthcare facilities it will be possible to enter in the national system and obtain the file of a citizen registered in a foreign system, through a quick and safe exchange process.
Besides the software and the related installation, the European Union decided to fund its technological innovation, to make it more efficient, safe and accessible for doctors and patients of all the member States, always respecting European regulations.
Konfido will be implemented with six different technologies. Bit4id will manage two of them:
- Support to the eIDAS identity, to allow citizens with an eIDAS identity to use it for the Konfido authentication
- Logging based on Blockchain, to track and safeguard the data exchange between countries.
The elaboration of the project started at the end of 2016 and will last three years. So in 2019 there will be the trial in some hospitals in Italy, Spain and Denmark. In Italy Konfido will be tested at the Santobono-Pausilipon in Naples.
Bit4id will work at the project together with other 14 internationals partners, as EXUS, CEA (Atomic Energy Commission) and the Imperial College London, known as one of the best universities in the world.
